Red and Craig’s Project
During my residency, there were many days when I worked alone in the darkroom making prints for hours. Although I liked the solitude of this work, I also wanted a space to collaborate with other artists. I found myself inspired by the idea of working alongside other artists who engage with the foundational elements of light and chemicals in their work, and my ultimate goal in this collaboration is to push my own boundaries as an artist.
When I thought about putting together a different media that would complement the same foundational elements of my work, the Artist that came to mind was Craig Kraft. I was initially struck by the idea of displaying neon lights with large cyanotype prints when I saw Craig’s neon light artwork in his studio. Before that experience, I had never known that artists worked with neon as a medium for their creative expression.
Seeing his work was what brought about this idea to take this project into a full scale collaboration series. The two pieces when combined are compelling and would break down boundaries and institutionalized conceptions of what art can be. While expressing the immense value of community and creative collaboration.
Our idea with this project is to combine my life size cyanotype prints with Craig’s neon lights, ultimately making a series of seven prints and neon lights, which would be displayed alongside each other. Both Craig and I believe this endeavor would be dynamic, but the challenging piece is the cost of the project. We have set up a gofundme page to help raise funds for our collaboration.
If we meet our goal with your help you’ll be among the first to be invited to our opening. As well as a print from the series for those who donate $50 and up. Craig and I believe that that working together creates a synergetic effect and together we are greater than the sum of the parts! We hope that you will fund our project and share out story with your friends.
