8 activities you can do to embrace social distancing

8 activities you can do to embrace social distancing

You may be finding yourself at home indefinitely and thinking, “What do I need to do to stay sane and productive?” At least that's what I thought when my plan to fly to Ethiopia was cancelled.

I basically am staying in D.C. with a lot of time on my hands. And since I’m an OR nurse and their is no need for us right now, I’ve turned to my creative side. So to keep me busy I sketched these images of my muses from my modern Ethiopian woman Series and decided to share what I’m doing to stay sane during this time.

I hope these drawings and tips bring hope that this will be over soon, clarity to stay positive, and ease any anxiety you may be feeling at this time.

And remember, we are all in this together. So if things seem unbearable, reach out to a loved one, and perhaps you’ll find what you’re looking for. Without any further ado, here are my

8 tips to embrace social distancing.

Slow down your daily activities like cooking, eating, and cleaning. Find enjoyment in what you’re doing instead of rushing through it.

Make Facetime dates with your friends. You can do things like happy hour, watching a movie, sharing hobbies, etc. Here are some apps to help with that: Skype, Whatsapp, Facetime, Google Hangout, House-party, Zoom, Marco Polo.

Write down all the goals from 2019 you didn’t have time to complete and start working on them daily.

Don’t forget to practice self care by exercising, meditating, eating healthy, taking a bath, and reading. SC in our current situation also means being selective of who you allow to listen. Info about COVIID 19 comes from unreliable sources like your friend's cousin who is a gynecologist or your aunt that's in the group message and relentlessly posting fake news videos. I have one thing to say: STOP LISTENING to them. Get your facts instead from WHO, CDC, MOH Eth, & Coronavirus:Face vs Fiction podcast.

Remember you’re being selfless when you choose not to go out in public, but when you have to go out, stay 6 ft (2meter) away, be nice to people, smile, and say hello. Many people feel isolated at this time and you don’t know what simple kindness will do. You can still do these things while you keep your distance.

Find ways you can help someone. Empathy goes far during this difficult time.

Give yourself permission to sit in solitude and do nothing. Practice meditation and yoga. Things will get better and you will never have this time again.

I will leave number 8 blank so you can answer this in the way you need to embrace social distancing. Now, stay where you are, release anything that is no longer in alignment with your energy, and embrace what lights you up.

I hope you find these tips helpful. I also hope that you and your loved ones stay safe during this time. Please feel free to like or comment and share these tips with your friends and family.
