As the year began, I ventured out of my normal routine as a travel nurse to pursue my life long obsession with photography. I took six months away from my travel nurse career and gave it to my photography aspirations. It paid off when I took beautiful and intimate photographs of my families, new and old friends, and sitters (for my Photo Series). It didn’t stop there. I was introduced to some amazing photographers, both men and women, such as Richard Avedona and Vee Speers, who inspired me to be dedicated to my photo series.

During that journey, I also met some amazing people I wouldn’t have if it wasn’t for my bold move to take my Artistic side more seriously. I lived with my analog friends in Germany, met nurses and doctors in Ghana, and  models and ordinary women in Ethiopia. The  biggest moment when I realized these two worlds were compatible was when I was asked by my friend to take his family portraits hours before his father passed away. As I was with him, both as a nurse and photographer, it made me appreciate these two gifts. For me, there is no separation. These two are symbiotic formulas that work perfectly.

If you ask most of us in the medical field, we would tell you our creative side had to take a back seat, and to bring it back is too complicated now because of the responsibilities we have in life, whether it is feeling intimidated that others are creating better work, or we ourselves have gotten a little rusty;  our doubts make it impossible to pursue this passion with confidence.

So for this month, I'm sharing my photography moments that have brought so much meaning and purpose.. And to everyone who thinks that they’ve neglected their creative side, it’s never too late to pick up where you left off.
